Bartenders, Are you getting your full share of gratuities? Here
are ten techniques that could earn you twenty, fifty and maybe even an extra
hundred dollars a night in tips from your customers! |
 |
CALL CUSTOMERS BY NAME Calling people by their names tells them that they
are considered important. Most people find such recognition flattering and
enjoyable. |
 |
MEET AND GREET THE RIGHT PERSON With mixed genders, be nice to the
opposite sex but pay special attention to the customer of the same gender. I
don't know why this works but it does. |
 |
WEAR SOMETHING UNUSUAL If you must usually wear a server’s uniform at
work; add a distinctive element of clothing, jewelry or other so that you stand
out. |
 |
PROMOTING YOURSELF Go out and promote yourself, go out and do flyers, go
to the mall, park or beach and talk to people. |
 |
GIVE THE RIGHT CHANGE If someone orders a five dollar drink and pays with
a twenty, give them a ten and five ones in change so they can give you a tip.
|
 |
WORK SOMEWHERE THAT HAS A HUGE CUSTOMER BASE You can be the best, but if
your shift has only a few customers. That is what you can expect to make, a few
dollars. |
 |
PREPARATION It is your responsibility to have the proper garnish well
stocked, and plenty of napkins and matches in the napkin and match holders, also
plenty of CLEAN towels. There is nothing worse than having your elbows stick to
the bar or having a sour smelling towel. |
 |
MAKE THEM LAUGH This is easy to say but hard to do. If you can naturally
inject a little humor it goes a long way. |
 |
CULTIVATE REGULARS That's guaranteed cash on slow nights and it will make
your busy nights less stressful. |
 |
PLACEMENT OF TIP JAR The best location for your new tip jar is on the
back bar where it can be seen by all. Don’t be afraid to ring it a few extra
times when you get a really good tip!
